Blind Man Sees (by Mr. J)
THEME: Jesus restores the sight of a blind man.
BIBLE VERSE: Mark 10: 46-52 Then they came to Jerico. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside begging.
When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David have mercy on me!"
Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you."
Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see."
"Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
PROMPTS: Blind fold or bandana to cover eyes of a child. Possibly have presenter wear sunglasses and take them off at the end)
MESSAGE: Has anyone ever been to Silver Dollar City in the Ozarks near Branson? It is a fun place with rides and shops. Now one of the things they have there is a cave deep in the ground that you can go into. then the tour guide had our groupd near the bottom of the cave he turned out the lights. It was so dark I could not see my hand in front of my face. That is as close as I can imagine what it is like to be blind.
Close your eyes for a moment. (presenter bumps into a couple of things) If you try to walk around right now you might bump into things. It sure is scary to think about not being able to see anything.
(Ask for a volunteer and cover the eyes of one child with a blindfold and have them walk around for a moment and show their reaction)
That is what our story is about today, a blind man named Bartimaeus. Poor Bartimaeus, no one would give him a job b ecause he was blind, so he had to beg for food and money. (read the Bible verses)
Bartimaeus believed that Jesus was God's chosen one, so he knew Jesus could heal his blindness. So even though the people told him to be quiet, he hollered even louder for Jesus, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Bartimaeus immediately received his sight as soon as he spoke the words. Jesus is God so when he gives the word it happens right then. We don't have to wait either if we follow Jesus. (have kids close their eyes and when all shut take off sunglasses) "Open your eyes and follow Jesus!"
