THEME: Loving your neighbor even if they are not perfect. Especially written to be given by a teen or another school age youth.
BIBLE VERSE: John 2: 10, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
PROMPT: Individual flowers or other small item to give away to each child
MESSAGE: Do you have a best friend? I have a best friend. I know (fill in name) and (fill in name) are best friends because I see them playing together nicely and giving each other hugs. I can tell they care about each other. How do you show your firends that you care about them (listen for some answers).
It is pretty easy to love your best friend isn't it? (wait for any answers)
Who goes to school? (ask one or more who respond) Did you ever have someone in your class that was not very friendly to you? (Listen for response) Maybe they took your toys away or said mean things.
Did you know that the Bible tells us to "Love your neighbor as yourself?" He doesn't tell us to only love the fun and friendly people, but also the hard to get along with people.
I hate taking medicine, but my mom makes me take it so I can feel better. Does your mom make you take medicine? I hate swallowing medicine, but I know if I take it I will feel better. This is kind of like when we have to obey God's rules. He tells us to love our neighbor, even if they are mean or hard to get along with. We will feel better if we obey God's command to "love our neighbor as ourself" even if it is hard to do.
Let's all hold hands and say a prayer and then I will give all of you a flower (or other appropriate item) to show someone you care about them.
"Dear God, we know sometimes people in this world say and do things we don't like. Help us to love our neighbors as ourselves and thank yuou for all the people who love us no matter what. Amen!"
Now let's share these flowers (or other item) with someone special.
