David & Goliath
THEME: A story of how the little guy wins with God's help.
BIBLE VERSE: I Samuel 17:37 "The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
PROMPTS: Slingshot, a toy sword, or pictures of the David and Goliath story.
MESSAGE: Have you ever gone somewhere like a football game or a basketball game where all of the players looked like giants to you? I mean they just look so big and you think to yourself, wow, they could just step on me and squish me like a bug. How about wrestling and that giant wrestler the Big Show? He is about 7 feet tall and almost 425 pounds and looks like he chews nails for fun. I sure would not want to mess with someone that big.
Well in our Bible story today, we are talking about how a young boy named David ended up fighting the biggest and meanest looking giant there was around in Bible times. Now David was just a simple soldier and his army was out fighting with this group of people called Philistines and their army. They were out on the battlefield and things were not going to good for David's army because the Philistines had this giant of a man named Goliath.
Not only was Goliath big, but he was meaner than a big grizzlie bear that needed something to eat. Goliath had this huge sword and a big old shield and some other armor he wore. No one from David's army wanted anything to do with this giant soldier. Goliath would even stand out on the battlefield and challenge everyone to come and fight him and then make fun of the other army for being afraid of him.
Well one day it comes to be that David feels the spirit of God and even though he is just a small fellow with a slingshot, he feels God's spirit and takes on the big giant. Everyone figured that David was a gonner, that the giant Goliath would just smash him into pieces. But David was not afraid, because he knew his God was with him.
So David goes out there and takes his special slingshot. He whips it around (motion using a slingshot around your head), lets go and "BAMMM!", he kills the giant with a small stone. The Philistines are so surprised that their biggest and meanest soldier has been killed that they get scared and before you know it, David's army has won a great victory.
Well maybe you don't want to get in a big fight with a slingshot like David against some giant, but remember the Bible verse and that God is with you when you face some giant of your own.
