Ephesians 6
"Be strong in the Lord
and in his mighty powers."
"Put on the full armor of God
so that you can take your stand
against the Devil's schemes."
Football & God's Armor (by Tim Johnson)
BIBLE VERSES
Ephesians 6
"Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty powers."
"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the Devil's schemes."
THEME
"Football & God's Armor" uses the popularity of a favorite fall sport to compare the importance of protecting yourself in football with equipment and in protecting yourself in life with God's armor or word. This children's message is ideal when local schools, colleges, and the pros are all competing in football.
PROMPTS
The use of various team jerseys being worn during the presentation lends to the overall effect. You should have a football helmet, shoulder pads and at least one jersey. It is suggested that you involve someone who is a coach or a player and have them bring in some of their football equipment for props. Then use the basic script to interact with the players or coaches. If you use big screens, photos are included which you may save and display during the presentation.
SCRIPT
You know that some players are on offense and try to score touchdowns. Other players try to keep the other team from scoring. Teams also have special teams for kickoffs, field goals, and extra points. On our church special team, we have a special way to score, that is with the message of Jesus Christ.
John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that who-soever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
Football players have to be strong and in good shape. (Describe some workouts or have the guest describe their workouts and weightlifting)
Players also wear a lot of equipment to protect themselves from getting hurt. (Describe the helmet and pads or have the guest talk about them. Put some of the equipment on one or more of the children as you describe it.)
As we look at this football equipment, it reminds us of the armor of God that the Bible talks about in Ephesians 6. "Put on the full armor of God so that you may take your stand against the devil's schemes." Just like this armor like football equipment protects against injury, when we put on the armor of God, we are protected from harm with our trust in God.
When we wear God's armor, we are on the winning team for sure. (conclude)
