MESSAGE: In the spring time everyone starts to see a change in the earth. The grass goes from brown to green and the trees start to get leaves. For people who work on farms or like to grow things in the garden, spring is the time that they plant seeds in the ground.
One of my favorite foods to plant in the garden is sweet corn. Sweet corn has such a wonderful flavor and eating corn on the cob in the summer is good, good, good. (display some seed corn) First you have to get the ground all plowed up of ready with rows, then you plant these seeds. You stick them in the ground just a few inches apart and then cover them with dirt. The last thing you do is to water them. If you keep watering the seeds and there is plenty of sun, all of a suddent little plants begin to stick up out of the ground.
They just keep getting bigger and taller, until those corn plants may be five or six feet tall. As they start to get real tall, they delelop the big ears of corn that will taste so good when it comes time for eating. Yum-Yum! It is amazing what can grow so big and be so good from just a little seed.
There is another kind of seed that you can plant that is even more special than corn. They are called Jesus Promise Seeds. (show and pass out the packets of Jesus Promise Seeds) These little seeds look a whole lot like the corn seed, but they taste really good and the package they come in has a wonderful message.
On each package of Jesus Promise Seeds, there is a Bible verse. If you read that bible verse and think about what it means, it can grow into something just as big and good for you as food for the body. (read one or two of the packets of Promise seeds out loud for the kids) Now imagine how special these Jesus Promise Seeds would be if you gave them out to people who do not know about Jesus and his message of eternal life. You would be planting the most important seed of all for someone who did not know about God's love and salvation.
So I want each of you children to take a few packets and share them with others who may need to have the word of God planted in their life. I also want you all to read your own Bible verse and then enjoy eating a packet or two yourself, because these Jesus Promise Seeds are Good, Good, Good.
