STOP! Give ThanksTHEME: We need to stop and give thanksgiving to God during the Thanksgiving holiday, not just enjoy food, shopping, and entertainment.
BIBLE VERSE: Psalm 100:4 "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." PROMPT: Make a stop sign to hold up and or wear a traffic safety vest. MESSAGE: Ok boys and girls, it is almost Thanksgiving, a day when we celebrate by getting out of school, then eat lots of turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes. Next we sit in front of the TV and watch sports or hook up video games and sit there until we can hardly move. Finally we get in the car and go out on the busiest shopping day of the year for Christmas presents. Now that is a way to celebrate a holiday! STOP! (hold up sign like a crossing guard) Give thanks! "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4" Now this year I am looking for some youngsters to help me be a Thanksgiving guard. I need some of you to make sure that everybody in your house is giving thanks to God this holiday for the many blessings he has given us. I am worried that without you to serve as Thanksgiving guards, people may just be so busy eating and shopping and watching TV that they forget to thank God during this special holiday. |
I need all of you to stand up and practice being a Thanksgiving guard. When I say the word "stop," put your right arm out just like a crossing guard and say, "stop and give thanks!" (have children practice this one or two times)
Now this year during the Thanksgiving holiday I want you to be the best Thanksgiving guard you can be. When it is Thanksgiving dinner, put out your hand and say "stop and give thanks." When you think people are forgetting to remember what Thanksgiving is all about then it is your official job to hold out your hand and say the words, "stop and give thanks!" Let us do this one more time as I read our Thanksgiving Bible verse. (start the children on "stop and give thanks," the re-read the Bible verse) "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4" To make your own 8 X 11 inch sign you may simply copy the sign above and print on your home printer. Use card stock or paste paper on a folder and tape or insert a handle.
