Message:
When you are born, the nurse or doctor at the hospital do something kind of interesting. They make a print of your feet and hands. They put ink on your tiny new feet and hands and then put them on a piece of paper that tells all about your special day of being born. They write down how much you weigh, how long you are, who your parents are, what day it is, what city and state you are in, all kinds of stuff.
That my friends is called a birth certificate. It will follow you the rest of your life.
Now why in the world would the nurse take your feet and handprints? (respond to any answers). Well the answer is that no one else in the whole wide world has the same exact handprints or footprints.
Take a look at your hands (use a magnifying glass if you have one). There are all kinds of tiny ridges that are looped and whirled around. They form patterns that can be read just like a book. Only you have that exact pattern. You may look like other people, you may speak the same language, like the same kind of foods, but those hand and foot prints of yours are so unique that they will always identify who you are even after you grow up.
Holy guacamole!
So that means you are a special person with something unique to share with the world. God knows exactly who you are without those handprints and footprints. Maybe people on earth need some special way to identify you, but not God. He has packaged you up and sent you into the world as a special gift.
Our Bible verse today is Psalm 127:3, "Children are a gift of the Lord." You are a present to your parents and family and that makes you very special. Thank you God for these wonderful gifts.
For a fun project at Sunday School or in Bible School, create a poster of each child with their handprints and the attached poem.
