PROMPTS: Flowers held by presenter or in a basket at the front of church.
MESSAGE: After a long and cold winter, it seems like there is a miracle of new life in the spring. Flowers start to sprout from the brown earth and open up their lovely blossoms. Grass turns green and pretty once again and the temperature gradually warms up until we are able to wear our shorts again and lose those heavy coats.
(Ask some of the children what their favorite flower is or if there is little response, help the children by pointing out the names of some flowers at the front of church or that you have brought as a prompt.)
It is not just the growth of new flowers and the green grass that happens in the spring, there are all kinds of new baby birds and critters being born. I just saw a baby lamb running and jumping in his pen. He was so full of energy. Then there were the baby chicks over at the store. They stand under the heat lamp and look so cute chirping away. In the trees are all those bird nests with eggs or little baby birds hoping their mommy or daddy will bring them a tasty worm for dinner.
So who is responsible for all of these little miracles of new life? That's right God renews our land and lives each spring. Let me share with you some verses from the Bible.
Song of Solomon 2:11-12 "See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land."
So today let us offer a prayer of thanks to God for his gift of spring time. Fold your hands. "Dear God, thank you for all those wonderful spring time gifts of flowers and new life. You are so awesome. Amen"
