Light of God
Bible Verse: 1 John 1:5 “God is light, in him there is no darkness at all.”
Prompts: Pictures of shadow puppets or creating them yourself in front of the kids.

In this message, the speaker begins with discussing the creation of "shadow puppets" on the wall. Display photos of shadow puppets or demonstrate some to the children. You may ask older children to show any they already know how to do. Ask what shadow puppet is their favorite or if anyone they know can make the puppets.
"It is a lot of fun to make shadow puppets."
Next explain how the shadow is created by the hands and fingers blocking the light and leaving a shadow on the wall the shape of the hands and fingers. Solid objects do not allow the light to pass, this is a fact of science. Where a light source is facing can also change how a shadow appears, for example is the sun at an angle, straight overhead, or almost gone.
"Solids block light."

Finally, show the photo of a match or candle burning in front of a wall or plain surface. Ask the children to look on the wall to see if there is any shadow of the flame. Point out that the match stick or candle itself produces a shadow, but not the flame. If your setting has appropriate lighting, you may be able to use an altar candle for the demonstration.
"Why doesn't the flame make a shadow?"
"Light is not a solid and can never produce a shadow. It is a special type of energy that takes away darkness. Without light little could grow, we could not see each other or allow us to enjoy life."
"The Bible tells us God is light."

"You do not see light like an object, but it is real. The same with God, you do not see him, but he is real. He is the light of the world."
