Simon Says (By J. Chris Johnson)

THEME: Using a simple and popular child's game to teach about obeying their parents.

BIBLE VERSE:
"Children obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord."

Colossians 3:20

MESSAGE: Welcome children and arrange them so they can participat in Simon Says, activities.  Explain the basic rules to them and begin playing the game.  Modify your directions depending on the age and range of children.  In groups with both young and old, have the youngest go to one end and the older children to the other side.

As you begin giving instructions keep talking and changing directives as you speed up and or make things more difficult.  Use your own body actions at times to demonstrate what you want them to do.  After 1-2 minutes you should have things going so fast with difficult instructions that everyone is confused.

Then forcefully command, "Simon says everybody stop and stand still!!!"  "Wow, this is sure hard work trying to do what you are told.  No wonder being a kid is so hard, always trying to follow everybody's rules and directions, especially mom and dad."

"You know sometimes you just can not do what you are supposed to, even when you are trying very hard, just like our Simon Says game.  Well let me give you one more special Simon Says and this one is Simon Says listen to the Bible."

"Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is pleasing unto the Lord," Colossians 3:20.  (Repeat verse for emphasis)  Kids, if you follow what the Bible says in this verse, then you have won the Simon Says game.

Now one more Simon Says, "Simon Says go back quietly to your seat and give your mom and dad a great big hug."
